New Subforums

Post by Aesgarth »

I've created sub forums for random and serious posts. Fairly self explanatory.

If we need any more please suggest them in here.

If this is going to become a more permanent thing I'll start thinking about a domain name specifically for it.

Thanks Aesgarth. Is it worth mirroring a similar sub forum structure to the old place? With films/telly/books, sport/leisure/health & fitness, that sort of thing?

Good stuff AES. Worth moving the current threads into the appropriate sub forums ?

I don't think so. Most things were in random anyway

Was it intentional that the new sub-forums can only even be seen to exist if you are logged in?
Hard to attract new joiners that way

Most things apart from the specific ones I mentioned, which weren't. Still, wev.

Being a 'lightly used' forum, I think the two or no sub-fora is fine. With CTF, I only ever clicked on the 'latest posts' view, and it never went to more than a page of new stuff. I can't see that view available on this forum, so the fewer places to look, the better.

We can inspect and adapt if and when we need I guess.

As for attracting new members, I'm not sure how we ever would. Unless I'm mistaken, pretty much everyone who joined CTF came from PH, rather than by finding it organically.

In which case, can the "post here in case of disaster" threads be moved into Random or Serious?

Keeps things tidy.

Does this mean we now need a new "In case of disaster" backup, in case this one goes down?

Moving the existing threads is on the to do list.

I don't think anyone expected you to go to that much trouble.

Once I've fixed the permissions it's a 5 minute job, but I can't fix permissions on my phone. Permissions need fixing because I don't think anyone can post in the new subforums yet. Myself included.
